FAQs
Laser Hair Removal
- 1. What is laser therapy and how does it work?
Laser therapy is a safe, effective, and commonly used treatment, providing optimal results in areas such as the removal of unwanted hair, skin tightening, wrinkle reduction or, spider veins. Lasers work by delivering an intense beam of light that is absorbed by the skin. This light is converted to heat and is absorbed by the cells being targeted, while leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. -
2. Are laser treatments safe?
Yes, laser treatments have been used for many years for a variety of medical and cosmetic procedures. Vitae Med Spa uses the newest laser technologies for optimal, safe results. -
3. What will my treatment be like?
You and your practitioner will wear safety glasses to protect your eyes during the procedure. Your practitioner will use a small hand piece that touches your skin to deliver therapeutic energy. You may feel a light spray of coolant on your skin before and/or after each laser pulse. -
4. How many treatments sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. For hair removal, multiple treatments are required, as the process is most effective when the hair follicle is in its active growth phase. Many factors impact the efficacy of individual laser treatments, including the severity of the condition being treated. -
5. What precautions should I take before my treatment?
In general, avoid sun exposure, tanning booth light or chemical tanning agents for 4-6 weeks before treatment. Avoid plucking, electrolysis or hair waxing for 6 weeks prior to treatment. Your skin should be thoroughly cleaned and dried, removing any makeup, deodorant, creams or oils before laser treatment. For patients scheduled for hair removal the hair (in the area to be treated) should be completely removed by shaving. Consult your practitioner for specific precautions that relate to your individualized treatment plan. -
6. What precautions should I take after treatment?
After laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). Care should be taken in the first few days following treatments to avoid scrubbing or rinsing the treated area with abrasive skin cleansers -
7. Is there any pain associated with laser treatment?
Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band against the skin. This discomfort resolves in several seconds and is minimized by a cooling technique.
Skin Tightening
- 1. Is laser skin tightening safe?
Laser skin tightening is a safe way to rejuvenate the appearance of skin in any area of the body. Unlike other treatments, such as laser skin resurfacing, which promote the growth of new skin by removing superficial layers of the patient’s skin the patient’s existing skin, laser skin tightening does not burn or break the skin. Patients who undergo skin tightening experience very few side effects and these are most often minor inconveniences in the form of redness or minimal and temporary swelling. -
2. When will I see results?
Most patients notice changes in the tone and condition of their skin immediately following a skin tightening treatment. However, because the procedure is designed to stimulate the natural growth of collagen, optimal results may take up to a few months to be visible. Typically, new collagen growth takes from 90 to 180 days after the initial treatment, at which time you’ll enjoy a dramatically rejuvenated appearance. -
3. What does laser skin tightening treatment feel like?
During treatment, your laser practitioner will use a small hand piece to apply quick pulses of laser light to your skin. You may feel a gradual warming sensation at the treatment area, and could feel brief discomfort which is often described as similar to the sensation caused by a snapping rubber band on the skin. Most patients comment that the discomfort they feel during laser skin tightening is minimal, and it is usually resolved within minutes of the procedure’s completion. -
4. Are multiple treatments necessary?
While patients see noticeable decreases in skin laxity after their first laser skin tightening session, we may recommend additional treatments, depending on your desired results and the area(s) to be treated. Treatments are generally spaced three to four weeks apart. After the initial skin tightening treatments, some patients opt for yearly touch up sessions to target areas most prone to wrinkles and lines.
Spider Veins
- 1. How does laser spider vein treatment work?
Lasers deliver concentrated light in a specific wavelength of the spectrum. Each wavelength is absorbed by a different target, such as pigment, blood, or water. The hand piece delivers light pulses in the wavelength which is ideal for targeting spider veins. The light pulses heat the blood within the vein. The heat of the blood affects the vessel lining, which causes the vessel to constrict and eventually fade from view. -
2. What do laser vein treatments feel like?
The laser hand piece will be moved over your skin, following the length of the vein, pulsing the laser on the targeted vein all the while. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin, while a flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the hand piece is being pulsed. -
3. Are these treatments safe? Are they painful?
Your Vitae Med Spa physician will go over the risks and benefits of the treatment with you during your FREE Consultation. Our spider vein treatments are skin-safe and comfortable. The hand piece delivers its energy in one smooth, gentle pulse, and a cooling burst of cryogen to protect the skin from a sharp rise in temperature. -
4. What should I expect after treatment?
Immediately after treatment you will see any of these three possible outcomes: the vessel will disappear, the vessel will darken, or the vessel will shrink. The surrounding skin may turn pink and be slightly swollen for up to 24 hours. Sometimes additional treatment is necessary to achieve full clearance of leg veins. Laser treatment may cause minor bruising that usually improves within a week, but most often, recovery is immediate. Two to four treatments may be required to achieve your desired result. Immediately following treatment, you may apply makeup if you so desire. -
5. What is the main difference between arteries and veins?
In simple terms, arteries carry oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the tissues. Veins return oxygen-depleted blood to the heart. -
6. What are the different types of veins in the leg?
Deep veins return blood directly to the heart and are in the center of the leg, near the bones. Superficial veins are closer to the surface and have less support from surrounding muscles and other tissues than deep veins have. Spider veins, also called telangiectasias, are tiny visible vessels just underneath the skin. They develop most commonly on the face and legs. -
7. How long does it last?
Treated spider veins are permanently removed. However, regardless of treatment, you should anticipate the development of new spider veins over time. Spider vein therapy treats current spider veins but does not prevent new ones.
Botox® Cosmetic
- 1. What exactly is Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age. During treatment, very low doses of Botox® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause those stubborn lines. The treatment is usually done in about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. Within days, you may see an improvement that can last up to 4 months. Results may vary. -
2. Is Botox® Cosmetic affordable?
When considering your facial aesthetic options, Botox® Cosmetic is quite affordable. According to an American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery survey, Botox® Cosmetic is one of the low-entry-cost facial aesthetic procedures in the United States. Like other appearance-related investments, such as hair coloring and cuts, teeth whitening, and chemical peels, the cost must be weighed relative to your expectations. Consult your doctor for further information. -
3. How does Botox® Cosmetic work?
Those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows form over time as the result of muscle activity. Botox® Cosmetic is injected directly into the muscles between your brows. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form. -
4. When will I see results from a Botox® Cosmetic treatment?
Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to a month, and results can last for up to 4 months. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women rated the improvement in their appearance as moderate to better 1 month after treatment. Results may vary. -
5. How long does Botox® Cosmetic last?
Results from treatment with Botox® Cosmetic can last for up to four months. If you discontinue treatment, the frown lines between your brows gradually will look like they did before treatment. -
6. Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?
Although the results are visible, a treatment with Botox® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had work done." The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows. -
7. Will I experience any side effects?
The most common side effects following injection include temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection. Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects. -
8. Who should not use Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® Cosmetic should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Patients with neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.
